It’s perfectly normal to have questions — and we’re here to answer them all.
To make things easier, we’ve put together a guide onhow our team uses their Norm. panties.

  • Catarina 🩸🩸 🩸

5-day cycles, moderate to heavy flow

    • On the first day of my period, my Norm. menstrual panties last me the entire day — and the same on the last day..
      - On the second and third days, they last around 8 hours (sometimes a bit more). What I do is wear one pair in the morning, change after lunch when I start feeling a bit less comfortable (when the fabric feels less dry), and then change again before going to bed.
    • Since I only wash them at the end of my cycle, I like to have 12 pairs available to feel comfortable — also because I always keep one in my bag for unexpected surprises (my cycle likes to keep me guessing!). I don’t just wear them during my period — since postpartum, I’ve occasionally had small urinary leaks, so I feel more comfortable wearing menstrual panties daily, especially when I know I’ll be out for longer periods or doing sports.
    • My washing method is the laziest ever: I collect them all in a large waterproof bag. At the end of the cycle, I place the open bag in the washing machine on a cold rinse cycle. Then I add more laundry (usually dark clothes, since those are washed at lower temperatures here at home) and wash everything with detergent, no fabric softener, at 30°C. Finally, I just air dry them on a clothes rack.
  • Mariana 🩸🩸🩸🩸

    7–8 day cycles, heavy flow

    • On the first day of my period, my Norm. menstrual panties last me the entire day — and the same on the last day.
    • On the second, third, and fourth days, they last around 2 hours (sometimes a bit longer). On these heavier flow days, to avoid changing more than four times, I use an internal absorbent (tampon). Before going to bed, I remove it, change panties, and they last me through the night.
    • I usually hand wash my panties and hang them to dry if I’m still at the beginning of my period. Since I have 8 pairs, that gives me roughly one per day, so I can only wash them all in the machine at the end of the cycle, or occasionally during the week if I’m doing laundry. When I use the washing machine, I add other clothes and wash them with detergent, no fabric softener, at 30°C, then simply air dry them on a clothes rack.
  • Ana Cristina 🩸🩸

    5–6 day cycles, moderate flow

    • On the first and last two days of my period, my Norm. menstrual panties last me the entire day — from morning until evening.
    • On the second and third days, they last around 7 hours. I change my Norm. panties when I wake up, again after lunch or when I feel the fabric getting less dry, and usually once more in the evening when I get home. My flow is very light at night, so I only need to change again the next morning.
    • I have 7 pairs, so I wash them throughout my cycle. I usually go through 6 pairs, keeping one as a backup in case something unexpected happens.
    • On heavier flow days, I pre-rinse the used panties with water only, gently rubbing off any excess before placing them all in a mesh laundry bag. Then I wash them in the washing machine at 30°C, together with other clothes that can go at the same temperature. I always air dry them on a clothes rack, in the most ventilated spot in the house.
  • Ana Patrícia 🩸🩸

    3-day cycles, moderate flow

    • On the first and last days of my period, my Norm. menstrual panties last me the entire day. On these days, I use two pairs — one during the day and another at night.
    • On the second day, they last around 8 hours (sometimes more). I wear one pair in the morning, change after lunch when I start feeling less comfortable (when the fabric feels a bit less dry), and then change again before going to bed.
    • Washing routine: I have 8 pairs to use throughout my period. After each use, I either soak them for a few minutes in cold water with neutral detergent, or rinse them during my shower. Then I let them air dry, and at the end of my cycle, I place them all inside a mesh laundry bag and wash them together in the washing machine at 30°Cwithout fabric softener, along with my regular clothes. Finally, I simply air dry them in a well-ventilated spot.

Use & Care

How many panties will I need for one menstrual cycle?

We’d say there’s no single answer that fits everyone — it depends on how often and how long your period lasts, your preferred washing routine, and whether you use the panties on their own or together with another internal product.

Our suggestion for those who’ve never used menstrual panties before is to start with one or two pairs, to test their absorption and see, on both lighter and heavier flow days, how often you need to change them.

Can menstrual panties be used for urinary leaks?

Although urine is much more liquid than blood, if the leaks are not very heavy, menstrual panties are an excellent ally to help you stay dry.

It’s common, for example, for women in the postpartum period — even several months later — to experience small leaks and use menstrual panties to prevent urine from reaching their clothes.

(We do, however, emphasize the importance of pelvic floor physiotherapy in cases of recurring urinary leaks.)

How many times a day should menstrual panties be changed?

Another question with no one-size-fits-all answer — it really depends on the day, your flow, your activities, and whether you’re using the menstrual panties as a complement to an internal menstrual product or as your only method.

If you’re using them on their own, simply treat them like regular underwear — change and wash once a day, unless there’s an excessive leak from a cup or disc.

As a general guideline, the absorption capacity of our menstrual panties allows for the following wear times:

  • Very heavy flow (typically linked to hormonal conditions): 2–4h
  • Heavy flow: 4–6h
  • Moderate flow: 6–8h
  • Light flow: 8–12h
How should they be washed?

There are several ways to wash menstrual panties — it depends on how many pairs you have, whether you use a washing machine, and simply on personal preference. However, there are a few important rules to keep in mind:

  • Always rinse in cold water first to remove most of the blood before washing with detergent or mixing with other clothes.
  • Always wash at low temperatures, up to a maximum of 30°C.
  • Never use fabric softener.
  • Never use bleach or any type of whitening agent.
  • Always air dry — never tumble dry.
  • They can be washed by hand or in the washing machine.
What should I do if they stop absorbing?

Our menstrual panties are tested for monthly use over two years, so they shouldn’t stop absorbing within that period. Of course, if there was a washing mistake (like using bleach or fabric softener), it can happen.

If you’ve followed the care instructions and they still seem less absorbent, detergent residue may be the cause (we always recommend using a small amount of detergent and rinsing thoroughly). In that case, run one or two intense cold rinse cycles, which should solve the problem.

If it still isn’t resolved, please send us a message or email!

How many years do menstrual panties last?

Our menstrual panties have been tested for two years of use with no loss of absorption or waterproofing. With proper care, they can last even longer — 3 to 4 years. The more attention you give to washing and drying, the longer they’ll last.

One of the advantages of this menstrual collection method is that even when the panties eventually lose their absorbent capacity, they can still be used as regular everyday underwear. Throughout our cycle, we naturally release other fluids (such as discharge or light urinary leaks), which are less abundant but can still cause discomfort due to moisture.

So, even after they’re no longer suitable for menstruation, they can (and should) continue to be worn.
